This week on FTMWeekly Radio, economist and best-selling author Jerry Robinson interviews Jim Rickards, counselor, investment banker, risk manager with over 30 years experience in capital markets, lecturer at Northwest University, at the School of Advanced International Studies, and author of a new national best-seller, "Currency Wars: The Making of the Next Global Crisis".
Rickards tells Jerry that he wrote this book in a way that doesn't require a Ph.D. or an economics background and hopes that everyone will read it. He said that he is trying to explain to people what is going on with the international monetary system and that there is a lot more risk than people realize. Here's an excerpt to whet your appetite:
(Jim Rickards speaking) " . . . there came a time and this happened in 2009 . . . when the Pentagon began to see, and people in the intelligence community were saying the same thing, that the greatest risk to national security wasn't some foreign enemy attacking us with weapons. It was a financial attack, or financial warfare, something that would destroy our markets, undermine confidence, and Wall Street and the banks and that that was something that they needed to understand, so they conducted the first ever financial war game. . . I was asked to be a Consultant to this because the Pentagon had plenty of expertise in conducting war games, but they had no expertise on capital markets . . . so we really teamed up and before we could play the game we had to design it . . . we then recruited some people . . . we cooked up some surprises . . . and it took place at a top-secret weapons laboratory just outside of Washington . . ."
